M.V. Ocean Defender

The MV Ocean Defender is a converted 111 foot (34 metre) Norwegian whaling vessel. This ship came into the radio scene because it sailed into Douglas Isle of Man in 1997 and it was visited by Paul Rusling, and his former Radio Caroline 1973 colleague Dave West (who lives in Douglas), and they persuaded the captain and the owners (Earthkind) to join with Ray Anderson, EAP, to operate a radio station into London for some publicity. The ship is built of wood and was built in 1921 - the oldest radio ship still afloat? It is a floating laboratory and rescue centre for oil- and pollution operated by Earthkind, The National Welfare and Environmental Charity.

Radio station: Radio London (Ristricted Service Licence) from 17th December 1997 to 13th January 1998

Location: From Saint Katherines dock, Docklands, London (UK)
