Planned offshore radio station: When Britain closed the military bases on the island of Malta during the early 70's they used the forces radio to help co-ordinate the gradual evacuation which meant moving tons of equipment and personnel.
During the last week or so the Forces Broadcasting Service also wanted to remove their equipment and staff for use elsewhere, so they closed the shore station and continued broadcasting from a naval vessel in Valetta harbour.
I have never managed to find the name of the ship, I presume it was quite large as the big naval vessels have closed circuit radio stations anyway, so all they would have needed is an FM rig and a temporary antenna fixed to a mast. [Information by Andy Cadier]
Planned location: Valetta harbour (Malta)
